This Guy's Lawn Care

About This Guy's Lawn Care

High Amana is one of the seven Amana Colonies, a village of brick, sandstone and clapboard houses that has kept its old proportions while the world rushed past. In September the light turns amber over the Iowa River valley, and the gardens that have long mattered here lean heavy with the season's last harvest. This Guy's Lawn Care keeps the grass around those historic homes mowed even and trimmed close, so the lawns frame the old walls instead of competing with them. Walks are edged clean and the clippings swept away, leaving the kind of plain, unfussy order the colony's builders would have recognized. On a slow afternoon in High Amana, that tidy green is part of what makes the village feel whole.
