Peters Custom

About Peters Custom

Out past Hampton's edge, where the grid of town streets gives way to long gravel roads running straight to the horizon, Peters Custom starts most mornings on farmstead lanes that stretch farther than anything inside city limits. Franklin County's farms are built for distance, driveways a quarter mile or more from the house to the road, and a storm out here means real work before a single vehicle can move. The crew reads these lanes by the fence lines and shelterbelts that break up the drift, banks piling hardest wherever the trees stop blocking the wind. There's a plain satisfaction in reaching the end of a long lane and looking back at a clean line running the length of it, work that's finished all at once rather than in pieces. By the time Hampton's own streets are stirring for the day, this crew has often already put in a full morning out where the county's real distances are measured.
