About Iron Oak Services LLC

The Iowa River bends past Marengo below a line of limestone bluffs, and in winter that river bottom traps cold air the way a bowl traps water — pooling there and lingering long after the county courthouse square has warmed in the sun. Iron Oak Services LLC works both halves of that divide, clearing the low-lying driveways near the river as carefully as the open square blocks around the courthouse uptown. Snow off the bluffs tends to arrive wetter and heavier than the open-prairie kind, more work for the blade but a cleaner finish once it's off the pavement. Scraping a driveway down past the ice line to bare concrete, leaving a clean rectangle where there was only a white slope an hour before, is the kind of small, exact work that doesn't need an audience. Marengo is a small county seat, and a plowed street here still means something to the people walking it to the courthouse steps.
