About Heartland Outdoor Services, L.L.C.

Along Beaver Creek, where Grimes' newest streets give way to the open ground still waiting its turn to be a subdivision, Heartland Outdoor Services, L.L.C. clears driveways on weekend mornings when half the neighborhood is still asleep. The creek freezes in patches through here, dark water showing between plates of ice, and the crew uses it as a kind of compass for how hard the cold has actually bitten that week. Saturday work has its own rhythm — slower, less urgent than a weekday commute, but no less exact, edges kept crisp along walkways where kids will be out sledding by noon. Grimes has grown fast enough that some of these streets didn't exist five winters ago, and there's something grounding about clearing ground this new against a creek this old. The trucks are usually gone before most of the block has poured a second cup of coffee.
