That same crew turns its equipment toward snow once a building season ends, clearing lots and driveways across the same downtown blocks and the neighborhoods spreading out from the river. A demolition and construction outfit already runs heavy equipment built for grading and hauling, which pushes a parking lot or a long commercial driveway clear faster than lighter gear could manage. The river bottom holds cold air close through a Fort Dodge winter, so a lot cleared at noon can glaze again by the time the light starts to go, and a second pass keeps it usable into the evening. The same machines that clear a lot for a new foundation spend the winter clearing it for nothing more than the next car pulling in.
