The outdoor spaces this crew builds around Fairfax are meant to be looked at — a stone path bending just so past a fire pit, a retaining wall stepping down toward the river with Fairfax's water tower standing up behind it. Winter strips all of that down to lines and shadows, and clearing snow from a designed yard means respecting those lines rather than plowing through them: the path shoveled to its own width, the low wall's cap left bare so it still reads as a wall under the drifts. Out on the flat ground north of the Cedar River, wind can scour one driveway clean while burying the neighbor's under a foot of drift, so every property here gets read on its own before the blade ever comes down. A driveway opened cleanly to the garage, a walk salted at the joints where ice likes to form — it's the same care that goes into laying a patio, just aimed at getting someone out the door on a January morning. The outdoor work doesn't stop being a craft just because the ground's gone white.
