About Gehrke Inc

The Hardin County courthouse sits at the center of Eldora the way courthouses do in towns built up around a county seat, brick storefronts squared off around it and the Iowa River bending past just a few blocks beyond. Gehrke Inc keeps the streets near that square open through the winter, plowing the angled parking and the sidewalks that see the most foot traffic on a business day. The river holds its own weather close to the banks, a damp cold that settles into the low ground near the water even when the rest of town has dried out under a clear sky. Midday sun in Eldora can turn a morning's packed snow to slush on the courthouse-facing sidewalks before it refreezes hard once the light drops behind the buildings. The company's routes extend past downtown into the residential streets nearby, keeping driveways and walks clear for the households that make the short walk into the square most days.
