DeWitt still centers on its old town square — a real central park, the kind most Iowa towns gave up decades ago — and the streets radiate out from it past grain elevators and farmhouses toward the Wapsipinicon River bottoms a few miles off. J&L Enterprises works those radiating streets and the farm lanes beyond them, plowing driveways and clearing walkways once an eastern Iowa system moves up out of the river valley and buries the square in a fresh, wind-packed snow. Rural driveways here run long, gravel turning to packed snow that a plow has to read carefully rather than just push through, and the crew treats each one on its own terms. Ice control follows behind on the short in-town blocks near the square, where foot traffic to the co-op or the school keeps the walks in daily use. It's small-town snow removal, sized to a place where everybody still measures distance from the same square block at the center of it all.
