Perkins Lawn and Snow

About Perkins Lawn and Snow

Davenport's bluff neighborhoods look easy in summer, wide porches facing out over the Mississippi with the river running brown and slow below, but those same streets turn into something else entirely once the grade ices over. Perkins Lawn and Snow works those hillside blocks where a driveway can run at an angle that turns a light dusting into a real problem, scraping down to pavement rather than leaving a compacted layer that only gets worse with the next thaw. Fog off the river collects low in the mornings along the bluff-top streets, and there's a particular rhythm to working through it before the sun burns it away and the day's traffic starts down toward downtown. The same crews that keep those lawns cut and edged through the warm months switch over completely once the season turns, following the same properties block by block. It's careful work suited to a river town built on a hillside, where a plowed street still isn't a safe one until the ice underneath it is gone too.
