About All Around Town

At Davenport the Mississippi does something unusual: it turns and runs west, so the city faces south across the water toward Illinois, its bluffs and old neighborhoods lined up along the river like seats facing a stage. All Around Town takes care of lawns across Davenport, where yards range from steep hillside lots above downtown to broad, level blocks farther from the water. October is a fine time to watch the work: leaves coming down off the old oaks and maples, the grass still green, a last cut and a thorough cleanup leaving each yard clear and calm. When a towboat pushes its barges beneath the bridges and the late sun flares off the water, a freshly finished Davenport lawn feels like part of the view.
