Late in October the silver maples and cottonwoods around Council Bluffs let go nearly all at once, and a lawn that was mowed on Friday can be ankle-deep by Sunday afternoon. Loess Hills Lawn & Leaf is built for exactly that turn of the year: raking, blowing, gathering and hauling until the turf can see daylight again. The rest of the season it is mowing on a schedule, trimming the fence lines and tree rings, edging the walks so the yard keeps its shape.
