About Loess Hills Landscaping

The hills on this side of the river are made of wind — silt piled deep enough over the ages to stand up in ridges and knife-edge spines you will not find in many places on earth. Loess Hills Landscaping takes its name from that ground and works the lawns laid across it, where a yard can drop away sharply in the space of twenty feet. Mowing that respects the grade, trimming along walls and terraces, edging that gives a sloped lot a clear boundary again. This soil drains fast and dries faster, so cutting height and timing do a lot of the work of keeping turf green through an Iowa August. When the mower comes off a hillside yard and it reads even from the street, that is the day done right.
