For about two weeks each April, the timber at Red Haw east of Chariton turns pink with redbud, and the whole of Lucas County seems to agree that winter is over. Shawn's Lawns starts its year on that signal — the first cut, the rake-out of what the snow pressed flat, the edges redrawn along walks and driveways all through town and out past the courthouse square. From there it's the long steady middle of the season: mowing on schedule, trimming close where the mower can't reach, keeping a yard even from the street to the alley. Southern Iowa summers turn hot and humid enough that the grass never really pauses, and neither does the route. The reward is simple and it repeats every week — pulling away from a place that looks cared for.
