Skelley Tree Service

About Skelley Tree Service

The old homes lining Union Street sit high enough above the Mississippi that a storm can bury their long driveways well after the flats downtown have already cleared. Skelley's crew tends to catch that stretch of Burlington late in the day, working steep, narrow drives one at a time as the light goes from gray to blue over the bluffs. It's slower going than a flat subdivision, tight turns, tall retaining walls, walks that switch back along the slope, but the crew clears each one down to the stone or the concrete underneath before moving to the next house. Salt goes down heavy on the driveway aprons, where the grade meets the street and ice likes to build first. By full dark, the hillside is passable again, porch lights glinting off clean pavement instead of a crust of snow.
