Northeast of town the Chichaqua Bottoms Greenbelt holds the old oxbows of the Skunk River, and when that bottomland finally greens up, Bondurant's yards are about a week behind it. Nate The Mower Guy watches for that first honest mow of spring — ground firm at last, the winter's litter raked out, the mower back on its rounds. From there it's a steady cadence all summer: cut, trim around the trees and the mailbox, edge the walk, blow the drive clean, come back next week and do it again. Autumn brings the leaves and the closing cleanup. Simple work done on time, week after week, is most of what a lawn is actually asking for.
