Past Belmond's last row of houses, Wright County opens into flat section after flat section of farm ground, open enough that a January wind can lift loose snow off a bare field and lay a fresh drift across a driveway that was clean an hour earlier. KR Construction handles a lot of that rural edge, the acreages and farmstead lanes where Belmond's street grid gives way to gravel, and the work out there answers to the wind at least as much as it does to the inches that actually fell overnight. A lane might need clearing twice in the same day if the wind keeps working the open fields, since there's nothing between the crops and the buildings to slow it down. Back in town, the grain elevator still marks where the open ground ends and the streets begin, visible for miles once the fields have gone white. Keeping those farmstead lanes passable isn't complicated work, but a plugged driveway out on the section lines can be the difference between catching the school bus and missing it entirely.
