Ames Snow Removal

About Ames Snow Removal

Prairie Trail was an airfield not that many years ago, and the wide grid of new streets laid over the old runways still has a different feel than the rest of Ankeny — longer blocks, broader driveways, young trees still staked against the wind. Ames Snow Removal runs that neighborhood along with the older streets near downtown, reading each one differently: newer pavement holds less heat, so the ice grabs on quicker out at Prairie Trail than it does closer to First Street. A driveway cleared corner to corner before a young family's first commute of the day is a small thing that matters on a hard morning. Polk County's snow can come in fast off an open sky with nothing to slow it down, and getting ahead of that means starting the route while it's still dark. Watching a new neighborhood settle into its first few winters, driveways clear and salted, is its own kind of quiet reward.
