About Topsoil Outdoor Services

Everything good about a lawn in Story County starts underneath it — that deep black prairie ground that turns the fields around Ames coal-dark every April before the corn comes up. Topsoil Outdoor Services works from the dirt upward: aeration to let air and water reach the root zone, overseeding into the openings, fertilization timed to what the soil is actually doing, weed control to keep the competition down. The visible half is mowing, edging and trimming on a rhythm, plus the spring and fall cleanups that clear the way in and out of the growing season. Get the ground right and the grass hardly needs convincing. By high summer the difference shows from the street — even color, no bare shoulders, a lawn standing up on its own.
