Jack Trice Stadium empties out for the season and the wind off the prairie has the run of it, whistling through gates that were packed on a Saturday in October. Outdoor Escapes takes that same wind seriously on the lots and driveways scattered around Ames, because a plowed lot with a crosswind blowing snow right back across it isn't plowed at all. The work is in reading which direction the drift is coming from and cutting the pile where it'll actually stay put. A driveway cleared to the seam of the concrete, curb to curb, holds up even when Ames gets one of its sideways January winds. It's a quiet kind of satisfaction, watching a lot stay bare pavement long after the snow that fell on it has moved somewhere else.
