About Outdoor Envisions Inc.

North of Ames the old quarry filled with water and became Ada Hayden, and on a late-May evening the lake takes the exact color of the sky above it while the prairie grass along the path leans east. Outdoor Envisions Inc. works in that same long light, when the heat has gone out of the afternoon and a yard finally shows what it wants to be. Mowing and edging, fertilization, broadleaf weed control, aeration and overseeding, and the seasonal cleanups that open and close the growing months — each one a small step toward a lawn that reads as one whole thing instead of a patchwork. Homeowners from the north-side additions out to Gilbert and Story City get the same attention, whether the lot runs flat or falls off toward a swale. The reward comes at dusk: stripes still faintly visible, the mowed border meeting the beds in a single unbroken curve.
