At Waiehu the land runs flat out to the water and the grass takes salt on the wind straight off the channel. Island Turf works the morning end of the day out there and through the Wailuku neighborhoods behind it, when the dew is still silver and the first mowing line is the cleanest one of the job. Turf near the coast asks for a different touch — a steady cutting height, edges held sharp against sand and salt, weeds pulled before they get a chance to seed. Shrubs crowding the fence get cut back, and the clippings come off so the lawn dries evenly. Nothing tells you a property is looked after faster than a lawn with a true edge.
