On the Hamakua coast the rain arrives in bands, sweeps the gulch above Pepeekeo, and is gone again before the last pass is mowed. Just Fire Ants works that rhythm rather than fighting it, cutting grass that grows fast and green between showers, then edging the walks so the line stays sharp against all that wet abundance. Old mill roads run down toward Onomea, hibiscus leaning over fences, and every yard here has a slope, a shade tree, and a corner the mower has to be coaxed into. Trimming around the posts and the rock walls is done by hand, and the clippings are cleared off the concrete so the drive looks swept, not merely cut. It is honest satisfaction, standing at the road after a cleanup and seeing the whole property sit tidy under a sky that has just finished raining on it.
