Down where Puna runs out into black rock and open ocean, the wind comes ashore all day and never quite signs off at dusk. JB Pacific Services works the last cool stretch of the afternoon in and around Pāhoa — mowing, edging along the drive, trimming what the mower can't reach, then loading the green waste while the light goes long across the yard. Grass on this side of the island is generous to the point of stubbornness, so the job is really about rhythm: come back, cut clean, leave a shape that holds until next time. A driveway edged straight and a lawn cut level make a house look settled, and that shows from the road. Then the trades pick up again overnight and the island gets on with growing.
