For a few weeks each spring the jacaranda along Olinda Road let go all at once, and the road above Makawao turns purple — beautiful, and a lot to rake. Island Landscape handles that season the way it handles the rest: clear the lawn, run the mower in straight passes, edge the drive, and get the fallen bloom off the grass before it mats down and marks it. Higher up the road it is cooler and the cut lasts longer; nearer town the grass comes back at you within the week. Working a hillside means reading each yard on its own — the wet corner, the dry shoulder, the slope the mower has to take crosswise. The result is worth the trouble: an even lawn on uneven ground, holding its shape against the mountain behind it.
