Out at Laie Point the sea works the rock all afternoon and throws salt inland on the wind, and the yards nearest the water live inside that spray. Filipino Yard Boy keeps them cut and orderly — mowing, edging, string trimming along walls and fences, and clearing the trimmings when the job is finished. Salt-tough grass takes a low, even cut well, and the lines it holds show up from the road. Steady work, one yard finished before the next one begins. Late in the day the light comes in sideways off the water and a fresh-mowed lawn goes gold at the tips.
