About Kina Ole Sustainable Land Use

Kula's ground is red cinder and old ash, the same soil that grows the onions this stretch of mountain is known for, and it carries a lawn well when it is treated as soil rather than as a surface. Kina Ole Sustainable Land Use mows, edges and trims yards across upcountry, and pays as much attention to where the clippings end up — mulched back into beds where that helps, hauled away where it does not. Overgrown lots get cut back and brought into a rhythm; grassed slopes get kept dense so rain stays where it lands instead of running for the gulch. Hedge, shrub and border work rounds out the visit. It is plain maintenance with an eye kept on the ground underneath it.
