Coconut Kuleana works upcountry Maui and the coast beneath it, trimming palms and shade trees on land that tilts from pasture to jacaranda-lined road to protea farm. Pruning at this elevation is unhurried work — spent fronds cleared, crowns shaped, dry wood taken before the gusts that funnel through the gaps can find it. A removal gets planned around fences, water lines and pitch, with the wood lowered in sections instead of dropped. When a cold front comes through and strews limbs down a drive, the crew is up there cutting and carting until the lane is clear.
