Late in the day the light comes sideways across the Punchbowl slopes and every blade of a freshly cut lawn stands up in it. Mana Landscaping works these streets above downtown — mowing on the grade, edging where the sidewalk drops away, trimming around plumeria and low walls, blowing the cuttings back off the pavement. Rain sweeps through Papakōlea in bursts and the grass takes off after it, so the schedule is built to stay ahead rather than catch up. Beds are weeded, hedges brought back to shape, and green waste goes out the same day it comes off. From up here the harbor is a strip of silver, and the yard in front of it is trim.
