About Solomon's Lawn Care Service and D'Zines

Late afternoon in Hilo, when the light comes in low and gold along the bayfront and the pines at Liliʻuokalani Gardens throw long shadows over arranged stone, it is easy to see that a landscape can be composed the same way a room is. Solomon's Lawn Care Service and D'Zines carries that idea into ordinary yards — a bed edged into a deliberate curve, a hedge shaped so the line of it leads the eye toward the door, grass mown in even passes that catch the light one way going out and another coming back. Nothing here grows politely; a Hilo yard left alone for three weeks will make its own plans, so the craft is in restoring the shape and then keeping it. Cleanups clear what the wind and rain have dropped, and the borders get their definition back. When the banyans go dark against the water and the work is done, the yard reads as one whole thought instead of a list of chores.
