About Earthitecture

Upslope from Hilo the road runs into cooler air, and by Mountain View and Volcano the yards sit in fern and mist, the rain arriving quietly rather than all at once. Earthitecture keeps those upland properties mowed and edged, shrubs shaped, borders held where the forest is patiently trying to move back in. Grass at elevation grows slower and greener, and it takes a cut beautifully on a cool morning while the ground is still firm. Damp air holds the smell of cut grass close instead of carrying it off, so the work stays with you a while. A tidy lawn with a wall of hāpuʻu standing behind it is a particular kind of Hawaiʻi, and this is the crew that keeps that line drawn.
