South of Millen the pine rows run all the way to the horizon, and every fall they let go of enough straw to blanket a county. Almaraz lawn care and Pinestraw makes use of that season — beds re-strawed rust-colored and deep, lawns mowed down for the cool months, edges cut back where the grass crept out all summer. Trimming around fence posts and mailboxes, blowing needles off the walks, drives and porch, hauling away what won't stay put. In Jenkins County a fresh bed of straw against a mown lawn is a whole yard changed by one afternoon's work. It looks like the year being put in order.
