Silver Creek runs down out of the Floyd County ridges toward the Coosa, and in late winter the valley shows all its bones — bare hardwood, brown pasture, fog stacked in the low fields at sunrise. Silver Creek Dirt Works LLC spends that season getting ground ready: clearing fallen limbs and leaves, cutting bed edges back to a readable line, spreading mulch, shaping shrubs before the sap moves. Then spring comes up the valley and the mowing begins — weekly cuts, trimmed fence lines, drives and walks cleared after every pass. Between Rome and the Kingston side of the county, that is the work, week after week. A yard here can hold its own against some very old hills, so long as somebody keeps after it.
