The drive out Highway 80 crosses marsh and open water twice before Tybee Island shows itself, and in March that whole run goes green almost overnight. Turf Scouts open the season out there — mowing, edging, trimming and cleanups as island lawns come out of a short, mild winter. On a barrier island every yard is a little different: one takes full sun and salt spray, the next sits under oak shade, and each needs its own reading. That is the job, week after week, from the first spring cut to the last leaf-and-limb haul of the fall. Pull in to fresh lines in the lawn and a clear drive, and the island feels like yours again.
