Rutledge is a short grid of streets with a caboose parked in the town park and Hard Labor Creek running through the pines just north of it. Morgan County out this way is pasture, hayfield and old oaks strung along the fence rows, and June mornings smell like cut grass long before noon. Fairplay Plants, Shrubs and Trees keeps yards here on a regular cut — mowing, trimming around trunks and posts, running an edge along walks and drives, and clearing the clippings before leaving. Ground mown clean beneath those big shade trees is a good sight in early summer. That, week to week, is the whole ambition.
