Macon spends most of the year in bloom — the Ocmulgee running brown and easy, cherry trees setting the streets alight in March. But the city sits on hills, and hills plus a January ice event make for driveways nobody can climb. Skidvations Land Management runs the snow and ice work when that happens: blades down on the lots, the grades treated, walkways scraped to the concrete. Crews start in the dark, because an open entrance at six is worth more than an open entrance at ten. It is a handful of days a year in middle Georgia, and they are the days that count.
