Saturday morning on the west side of Macon sounds like mowers, one after another, working their way up the streets off Zebulon Road. Mr. Davis Lawn Service LLC is out in that chorus — running clean rows across centipede and Bermuda, squaring off the edges where turf meets the walk, taking the trimmer around the crepe myrtles and the air-conditioner pad. Come autumn the water oaks and sweetgums let go all at once, and the same yard needs raking and hauling more than cutting. Both jobs end the same way: every hard surface blown bare, nothing left sitting in the gutter. A neighborhood holds together on small things like that.
