Highway 44 leaves Greensboro heading toward the water, and the land opens on either side — pasture, pine, a farm pond catching the mid-morning light. Compass lawn and landscaping works that whole stretch of country, mowing and edging and trimming, shaping beds and hedges so a property reads as intended rather than accidental. A good yard has direction in it: lines that agree with the driveway, a border that says plainly where grass stops and mulch begins. That is the plan every time a gate swings open. Greensboro and the roads running out of it are the territory.
