Murph ‘N’ Turf

About Murph ‘N’ Turf

Sandy ground, salt in the air, and a sun that means business by ten — that is a Georgetown summer, and it is where Murph ‘N’ Turf does its work. The mowing goes street by street through the subdivisions off Ogeechee Road: deck level, lines laid straight, string trimmer around the crepe myrtles and the mailbox, blower to finish. Grass on this coast wants cutting most of the year, and the lawns kept on a set day are the ones that stay thick rather than patchy. Come fall the pines let their straw down by the armload, and clearing it keeps the turf from smothering and yellowing underneath. There is a certain pleasure in the last pass, when the edge along the driveway comes up crisp and the whole yard squares off.
