October is the long, generous month here — cool mornings, warm afternoons, and hardwoods letting go a little at a time all the way to Thanksgiving. David's Lawn Care Service moves with it, mowing while the grass still asks for it and clearing leaves off lawns, beds and walkways before they mat down and smother the turf. The last cuts of the year are the tidiest ones, taken on dry ground with the light coming in sideways. Then a yard gets put to bed: borders recut, autumn debris hauled away, everything squared for the cold. Fort Oglethorpe wears this season well, and a clean lawn under bare branches is a fine thing to pull into.
