Late in the day the pine shadows lie long across the yards on the north side of Fargo, striping the grass in bands you can mow between. Manny's Lawn Service works those hours, mowing, edging the walk, trimming close to trunks and foundations, and blowing the drive clear before pulling out. Around here a lot runs to weeds if it is left alone a week too long, so the job comes down to showing up on schedule and cutting clean. The reward is small and real: a crisp edge along the concrete, a lawn one even height from end to end. Then the truck heads out and the crickets take the yard back.
