October cools Fairmount off overnight, and by the middle of the month the hardwoods on the ridges begin turning while the grass finally slows down. Snapper works that shoulder season hard: last cuts of the year, leaves cleared off lawns and out of beds, edges recut along walks, limbs and debris gathered and taken away. Earlier in the summer it is the straightforward weekly round of cutting, edging and clearing the pavement, through a stretch of the calendar when north Georgia grass does not quit. A yard put to bed properly in the fall comes back in spring without a fight. That is the argument for showing up in the cold months too.
