Freight still moves through Doraville on the old line beside New Peachtree Road, and there is a particular kind of morning here when the horn carries a long way over wet grass. J&M Lawncare is usually already working by then, mowing, edging, trimming the fence lines and clearing the cuttings off drives and sidewalks. The route runs week after week from the first flush of spring growth to the last cut before frost. In between come the cleanups, leaves off the lawn and out of the beds. There is pride in pulling away from a yard and seeing the stripes lie even all the way to the curb.
