Come October the highway east of Dawsonville smells like apples and the ridges turn over into red. Frost finds the hollows first, the grass slows down, and the leaves start coming faster than anyone can keep up with. Chastain's Lawn, Tree, and Firewood mows on into the fall and clears the yards after the first cold nights take the trees. There is a kind of order to a mountain lawn that has been cut, edged and raked clean under bare limbs. It holds all the way to spring.
