Water runs south out of the Blue Ridge above this county and gathers, eventually, into the wide blue of Lanier — the river that gives Chattahoochee Lawn Services Inc its name. Up here in Clermont the mornings that come off that high ground are cool enough to work in long after the rest of Georgia has given up on comfort, and the crew uses them. Mowing, edging, trimming, a clean blow-off at the end: the list is short and the standard is not, because a lawn on a schedule never gets a chance to look neglected. Late in the season the leaves come down off the hardwoods in sheets, and hauling them clear is its own kind of satisfaction — the turf underneath still green, still breathing. They run that route through Clermont and out to Lula, Alto and Gainesville.
