West of Rome the land opens into broad valley farmland, pasture and hardwood running out toward the Alabama line, and Cave Spring sits in the middle of it with its white buildings and its park. On an October morning, frost still silvering the field grass, Three Rivers Landscape is already loading — mowers, blowers, rakes for a whole season's worth of leaves. Across the year the crew mows, edges, trims and shapes the shrubs, and when the beds thin out, mulch goes down and the borders get recut. Rome's rivers meet just up the road, and the work has something of that in it: many small streams of upkeep joining into one well-kept property. A place out here should look like it belongs to the valley, only neater.
