Canton grew up around its brick mill and the tight rows of houses on the hill above it, and those old streets still keep their small deep front yards, their stone steps and their shade. King GREEN works that side of town and the newer stretches beyond it, cutting, edging and trimming lawns across Cherokee County. On a mill-village lot the mower has to negotiate walls, roots and slopes, and the finish shows in the details — the strip beside the steps taken evenly, the edge along the sidewalk cut so the line stays straight from one property to the next. In the last of a summer evening, with the light coming warm off the brick, a block of finished yards looks like a place that is being looked after. That look is the whole intention.
