October is when Austell finally exhales. The hickories go yellow, the oaks turn a slow rust, and the light comes in low and gold across the open ground near the Silver Comet path just north of town. It is the season for clearing and for setting a lawn up right — cutting as growth slows, getting leaves off the turf before they mat down, mulching beds ahead of the first frost. Golden Season Landscaping works that stretch of good weather, when the ground is workable and the air is kind to anyone out in it. Landscaping and lawn maintenance both live in those weeks, and the yards show it come spring.
