Philema Turf

About Philema Turf

Turf is a specific thing to care about: the way Bermuda takes a stripe, the way centipede sulks if you scalp it, the way a lawn in this county can look like carpet by June when somebody has been paying attention. Philema Turf pays attention — cutting at the right height, edging, trimming, bed work, cleanups, keeping the grass even from one side of the yard to the other. Around the solstice the daylight in southwest Georgia stretches nearly to nine, and the last lawn of the day gets its lines in that gold. Rolling the mower off the trailer at a place you cut last week and finding it exactly as you left it, only taller, is quietly one of the pleasures of the trade. Grass repays routine, and Americus grows a lot of grass.
