By December the fields south of Alma lie open, and the pine rows stand black against a pink evening sky. Centipede grass goes dormant then, straw-colored and low, but the borders still creep and the leaves still gather where they always do. Southern style lawns keeps the cool-weather rounds going — cutting when the growth calls for it, cleaning the lines along drives and walks, lifting the litter so the yard stays flat and open. A dormant lawn kept trimmed still looks cared for, and it comes back in March without a fight. The work runs through Alma and the wider Bacon County area.
