Lawn Hoppers

About Lawn Hoppers

By two o'clock most July afternoons the sky over Acworth stacks itself into towers and lets go, and forty minutes later the sun is back out steaming the driveways dry. Working here means reading that clock — mowing the hilltop yards while the ground is still firm, trimming under the crepe myrtles while the last drops come off the leaves. Lawn Hoppers move that way, quick between showers, hopping one street to the next until every lawn on the route is even and the walks are swept back to bare concrete. Grass grows fast in a Georgia summer, and the answer is simply to show up on time and hold the rhythm. The reward is a yard that looks unhurried, even when the day wasn't.
